Hair transplants do more than give back the hair you’ve lost. They also improve confidence. NeoGraft hair transplant is an excellent hair loss solution as it is less invasive than other hair transplantation methods. However, there are limits to what NeoGraft can accomplish. Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rudy Coscia explains what to expect from NeoGraft hair transplant, and what it can and cannot fix.
NeoGraft Hair Transplant
NeoGraft hair transplant was designed to provide results that look completely natural. This state-of-the-art procedure adds thickness and fullness without any telltale signs of hair plugs.
Recovery time is minimal for a NeoGraft transplant. You’ll see results within a few months. Within nine months, you should have a healthy new head of hair.
Follicular Unit Extraction
NeoGraft uses the follicular unit extraction (FUE) method and is the only FUE harvesting system with FDA approval. Most hair transplant systems use the follicular unit transplantation (FUT) method.
With FUE, there is no need for scalpel incisions as is the case with FUT. The extraction device makes minute punches around the hair follicles. Each extracted unit contains between one and four hairs and is delicately transplanted in the treatment area. Since only a few hairs are transplanted at once, there is no need for suturing.
FUE is a more efficient process with little risk of scarring. The number of transplanted hair follicles taking root is higher than with other procedures.
Hair Loss Conditions
Hair loss can be caused by various conditions. Although male pattern baldness is the most common reason men seek hair transplantation, NeoGraft can also treat other issues, including:
- Hair loss from injuries
- Thinning hair
- Receding hairline
- Trichotillomania – hair-pulling disorder
Even people that continue experiencing hair loss after the use of topical or oral hair restoration medications may benefit from NeoGraft hair transplant.
The Earlier, the Better
For best results, the earlier NeoGraft is used, the better. Men who notice hair thinning but who have areas of thick hair for harvesting are optimal candidates.
NeoGraft does not work for totally bald individuals. Sufficient hair for harvesting must prove available for grafting. Patients need enough donor hair at the back of the scalp.
In some cases, body hair may substitute for scalp hair as donor material.
Hair Loss Continues
Hair loss will continue after a NeoGraft hair transplant. However, the use of Finasteride or another hair loss medication post-transplant can help keep male pattern baldness and other hair loss conditions at bay.
