Unfortunately, many individuals who lost a lot of weight, especially within a short period of time, are left with folds of loose, sagging skin that serve as an unpleasant reminder of who they used to be. Having stretched-out skin is frustrating, as it may inhibit high-impact activity, develop rashes or infections or make it difficult to fit into certain types of clothing.

Healthy diet and exercise have little or no effect on loose skin after weight loss. The only solution is to have the skin surgically removed with an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Rudy Coscia. Read on as Dr. Coscia explains the array of procedures he offers to help treat excess skin after significant weight loss.

Body Contouring Procedures

Body Lift

Body lift is intended to target areas of excess skin and fat and improve the contours in the upper body and/or lower body. Body lift is tailored to each individual patient based on the specific areas of concern.

Some patients opt for lower body lift, which removes excess skin and fat from the lower torso, or trunk. Typically lower body lift includes abdominoplasty, which treats excess abdominal skin and fat and tightens the abdominal wall muscles. Lower body lift also involves removing excess skin and fat from the lower back. The incision is usually placed below the underwear line and extends around the circumference of the lower torso.

Other patients opt for upper body lift, which removes excess skin and fat along the chest, extending around to the upper back. The incision is generally made just underneath the bra or bikini line.

Breast Lift

The breast area is a common area of concern for many women after significant weight loss. Breast lift (mastopexy) removes excess loose skin and rearranges the breast tissue higher on the chest wall for a more youthful contour. The remaining breast skin is tightened and the areolas are lifted higher on the breasts to create a perkier look.

Arm Lift

Arm lift (brachioplasty) is a great solution for patients with residual excess skin on the upper arms. Through an incision extending from elbow to armpit, excess skin and fat are removed and the remaining skin tightened. Arm lift creates a leaner, more elegant-looking arm contour.

Thigh Lift

Excess skin on the inner thighs left over after weight loss can be treated with thigh lift. The thigh lift incisions are usually created within the groin crease; however, some patients with extensive amounts of excess skin may need an extended incision that runs from the groin crease down to the knee. Through the incisions, excess skin and fat are removed and the remaining skin is tightened.

Take a look at the five best ways to prepare for your liposuction surgery:

* Individuals Results May Vary.

5 Ways to Prepare for Your Liposuction Surgery

1. Arrange for someone to drive you to and from the surgery.

You won’t be able to drive yourself after surgery, so ask a close friend or family member to drive you to the surgical center. Provide the person’s number to your plastic surgeon so that they can call when you’re done with your procedure.

[/fusion_text][fusion_text]

2. Prepare your meals ahead of time.

We recommend making at least three days’ worth of meals before your surgery. That way, you won’t have to worry about dinner while you’re groggy and just want to relax.

Don’t forget to stock up on liquids, either!

3. Take the time off you really need.

Liposuction surgery may not require as much recovery time as other plastic surgeries, but that doesn’t mean you should rush your recovery before your body is ready. You invested in your body enough to seek out liposuction; now is the time to ensure that you’re investing in your body’s healing time.

If possible, take the time off you really need, whether it’s an extra day from work or getting your partner to be more involved in taking care of the kids while your body recovers.

4. Get support from family and friends.

Liposuction surgery may be a personal decision, but liposuction recovery may require a little extra support in your life. We recommend having friends and family members check in on you, particularly in the first 48 hours after surgery when you may be groggy or more uncomfortable.

Liposuction Consultations Available

5. Invest in your favorite entertainment.

You get to take a couple of days off to rest and relax after liposuction surgery – make the most of it! You won’t be able to go anywhere, so why not binge your favorite Netflix show or watch a movie marathon? We recommend getting your entertainment options in order before your surgery so that they’re ready to go by the time you’re home after your procedure.

Dr. Coscia is a true artist. I can’t say enough positive things about him. I always felt validated and respected. I followed his recommendation to include liposuction to get rid of back fat and also to shape my hips. I am short waisted and now have a longer looking torso. I have recommended him to several friends and will always be so grateful for this gift I have given myself. Everyday, it’s a pleasure to get dressed.

Take the Next Step

Want to learn what else you can do to prepare for liposuction surgery? Schedule a consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rudy Coscia at his new plastic surgery practice in Granite Bay, CA.
